FRASER URGES GOVERNMENT TO END CLIMATE OF UNCERTAINTY ON FUTURE OF RURAL POST OFFICES

Christopher Fraser, MP for South West Norfolk, has called on the Government to report at the earliest opportunity on the outcome of the recent DTI Post Office consultation.

He advised the Post Office Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick MP, in House of Commons that sub-postmasters in South West Norfolk have told him they believe it would be rash to spend money on new stock or repairs while under threat of closure, and that they needed to know as soon as possible where they stood.

Christopher Fraser said, “The Minister accepted that rural sub post offices are finding it very difficult to conduct their business in the climate of uncertainty that they face. I have huge sympathy for people running sub-post offices who have faced a very worrying time while trying to offer a comprehensive service to the local community. The Government owes it to them to announce the next step. I welcome the assurance that I was given in response to my question that the Secretary of State will come to the House as soon as possible to make a Statement on the way forward.”
