Christopher Fraser, MP for South West Norfolk, has again pressed the Government in the House of Commons to commit to prioritising the dualling of the A11. He reminded the Transport Minister, Dr Stephen Ladyman MP, of his concern that the inadequate roads infrastructure is stifling Norfolk’s economic performance and sought the Minister’s agreement that the proposed upgrade will ensure that Thetford can achieve its full potential.
Speaking afterwards, Christopher Fraser said, “The Minister acknowledged that I have been fighting for this project for some time, but yet again failed to give me the assurances that I am seeking.
“It is all very well for him to tell me that I must convince local stakeholders. He is aware that I met EERA, EEDA and Norfolk County Council and that we all agreed that the upgrade is vital to local business, not least as a result of the award of Growth Point Status to Thetford since the A11 project was last given formal consideration..
“When I meet the Minister with representatives of Thetford’s Gateway A11 East Business Group, I shall expect him to take that unanimous view on board. He says the regional effect of road links is taken into account when priorities are decided. We have made a compelling case, and the Government cannot ignore the needs of Norfolk any longer.” |
