Christopher Fraser, MP for South West Norfolk, has welcomed support from the Secretary of State for Transport, Douglas Alexander MP, for his call for an urgent debate on safety, reliability and capacity of the railway.
Christopher Fraser raised the matter in the House of Commons, expressing his frustration that until the Department’s High Level Output Specification (HLOS) for the railway is published, Ministers are brushing aside MPs’ questions on these issues.
Douglas Alexander has now written to Christopher Fraser to indicate his agreement that a debate on the HLOS would be useful and welcome. He has copied his letter to the Leader of the House, Jack Straw MP, to indicate that he would be content to have a Debate, if possible before the Summer Recess.
Christopher Fraser said, “For once, it seems that the Government has recognised the strength of concern about these issues. The Department of Transport will be making key decisions in December on prioritisation of increases in capacity, which impacts heavily on safety and reliability of our train services. It is vitally important that Members’ views are taken into account before those decisions are made. I am delighted that my call in the House of Commons has met with such a positive response.” |
