FRASER CONGRATULATES SCHOOLS ON SPECIALIST STATUS SUCCESS

Christopher Fraser, MP for South West Norfolk has congratulated Charles Burrell and Rosemary Musker High Schools in Thetford on their success in achieving specialist school status.

The two schools applied jointly for specialist school status last year, Rosemary Musker in Modern Foreign Languages & Design and Technology, Charles Burrell in English, History & Drama, having to raise £100,000 as part of the process. Specialist status, awarded by the Government, will mean both schools can establish distinctive identities through their chosen specialisms.

Christopher visited the schools during the fundraising campaign, and called for support for the bid by the Thetford business community.

Christopher Fraser said: “I offer the Rosemary Musker and Charles Burrell High Schools my warmest congratulations. The schools’ joint bid was an excellent opportunity for local businesses, charitable trusts, organisations and the schools themselves to come together in support of a shared goal. It is a credit to all concerned that the target was reached and I am sure that investment in the next generation, to ensure their success at the highest level of academic, vocational and social development, will pay dividends.

“This success is however much more than about fundraising. The Government has recognised that these two schools offer exceptional education in specialised areas, and credit goes to the staff, students, governors and parents, all of whom were determined to prove that recognition was deserved.

“At an exciting time for Thetford, I believe that the schools’ much-deserved success will help unlock its true potential by raising educational standards in the town.”
